Another Handful of Heroes

For some reason, just when I assumed they had fizzled out for good, Hasbro's Marvel Universe Handful of Heroes mini figures recently returned to store shelves. This time at Target, a place I don't recall seeing them before this year. Ever since a few months ago I've seen the line repeatedly at multiple Target stores, so I guess they've all been getting pretty well stocked with these guys. As far as I know there aren't any new figures that weren't already out a couple years ago--just previously-released Wave 2 sculpts--but seeing them again brought the line back into my consciousness and caused me to take a closer look at them than I had before. I couldn't resist picking up another pack or two, which contained the transparent figures pictured above, among others.

Handful of Heroes will probably never rank as one of my all-time favorites, but there are definitely some cool sculpts--and when you think about it, the line is pretty significant for being one of the few mainstream monochromatic mini figure lines from recent years. It's a shame that, as far as I know, we won't be seeing any sculpts beyond Wave 2 as there are many more characters in the Marvel Universe that would make great mini figures. But who knows, maybe Hasbro is testing how they do at Target, and if they sell well enough, would consider continuing the line.
